GRIGNAN

Grignan became a hillside and fortified village at the base of the castle developing from the twelfth century.

The original town was protected behind sturdy walls from the thirteenth century.  Subsequent changes in the population can be traced in the ornamental details of facades (from the fifteenth to the eighteenth century).

To see: The castle of the Adhémar family, made famous by Madame de Sévigné who lived there at the end of the seventeenth century.
The collegiate church of the Saviour (sixteenth century).
The house of the bailiff (thirteenth century) and the typography workshop/museum.
The grotto of Rochecourbière, near the village, which was a favourite place of Madame de Sévigné and the Countess of Grignan.
